Monalisa Jemwa was born and raised in Epworth, Harare. As Monalisa grew up, she witnessed many social and economic problems in her beloved community of Epworth, an unplanned, informal urban settlement. Monalisa decided that she wanted to be instrumental in contributing to the solutions to these problems as a means to change the face of the community, which led her to join the Epworth branch of I AM Zimbabwe Trust in 2017. Monalisa is empowered by the work and passion of the young people in Epworth and plays an active role on the I AM Epworth leadership team.
Along with her role as the Accounts Manager, Monalisa also serves as the Finance Administrator on the I AM Harare Board. She is also the director of the Epworth based I AM Zimbabwe K.U.T.A.M.B.A. Early Childhood Development program, having previously served as the Grade 3 teacher in the I AM Mbare School for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Monalisa’s experience includes social work, psychosocial awareness, life skills workshop facilitation, Psychological First Aid and marketing and entrepreneurship. Monalisa also has a certification in First Aid from the Red Cross.
Monalisa considers herself to be a lifelong learner whose hobbies include netball, travelling and reading of novels. She currently stays in Epworth Overspill with her mother, her 5 year old son and her sister’s children.
